fox scores 1
among the networks fox is definitely on the lowest rung of morality. having come out with such quality programming as "married with children", "who wants to marry a millionaire?" and "joe millionaire" ( my personal favorite ) they've shown themselves to be happy to offer the high shock and sex for your viewing pleasure. only the adult cable channels and possibly mtv are better than fox at that.
fox isn't without its good points though. fox news channel has proven to be one of the most balanced and accurate news sources on cable. they have many talking heads whose views range from right to left and everywhere in between. if anything fox news could be accused of being "conservative". kind of surprising coming from the network that brought us "temptation island".
monday night fox scored a point with me. i'm a fan of the show "boston public". the show is set at winslow high in inner city boston, mass. the main characters are the faculty of the school with a few teenage dramas thrown in every now and then. they handle some pretty tough issues but also have the usual suspects like adultery and the dating relationship of marla and a little person ( mini me ).
the most recent teen drama involves marcie, the office worker, getting pregnant. marcie doesn't know what to do. her parents aren't supportive of her keeping the baby and the father's attitude is "whatever you want to do." she seeks advice from the two vice-principals, one a male and the other a female. here's the cool part. never once was the option of abortion mentioned. both of the vice-principals gave her the pros and cons of her two choices: keeping the baby or giving him away for adoption. abortion is an apparent non-issue. as it should be.
one of the final scenes of the show is marcie meeting with a young couple in the vice-principal's office. it's an interview of sorts, as it seems marcie is planning to give her baby up for adoption.
i think it's great that fox took this route with the show. maybe whoever is making the decisions for their news channel is having some effect on their prime time programming. whatever the case, i hope the message got through. their are alternatives to abortion...and all of them are better.
privacy concerns
privacy is a huge concern. both in day to day life and on the internet. a couple of years ago this company called DoubleClick got in a bit of trouble for using not so ethical ways of collecting information from users, and then selling it. also less than ethical.
guess who has been selected to the the first privacy czar for the Department of Homeland Security? a former executive of DoubleClick.
now i suppose it's possible that this executive had nothing to do with the unethical goings on of DoubleClick. but, do we want to take that chance.
idiots.
where we're headed through abortion
in the netherlands this week a terrible precedent was set, a little girl was awarded damages in a "wrongful life" suit.
The case of 9 year old Kelly Molenaar has led MPs to call for the Netherlands to follow France and ban damage claims for wrongful life. Doctors fear the judgment could lead to a sharp increase in defensive prenatal testing.
this is not good news. already in the netherlands doctors are given the power to end the lives of the elderly or the handicapped who are beyond help and will never be able to live a "useful" life. abortion and this are tied because both give the choice of who lives and who dies to the more powerful, so called "might makes right." whatever the most powerful says, is right.
this theory taken to an extreme ends in genocide.
dogs and cats
i got this in an email from jamie jo
What is a Cat?
Cats do what they want. They rarely listen to you. They're totally
unpredictable. When you want to play, they want to be alone. When you want to be alone, they want to play. They expect you to cater to their every whim. They're moody. They leave hair everywhere. They drive you nuts and cost an arm and a leg.
What is a Dog?
Dogs lie around all day, sprawled on the most comfortable piece of furniture in the house. They can hear a package of food being opened half a block away but don't hear you when you're in the same room. They can look dumb and lovable at the same time. They growl when they are not happy. When you want to play, they want to play. When you want to be alone, they want to play. They will love you forever if you rub their tummies. They leave their toys everywhere.
Conclusion:
Cats are tiny women in little fur coats, and dogs are tiny men in little fur coats.
that's about right.
sweet home alabama - explained (i think)
i've heard the song all my life. i always "turn it up" when it's on the radio and now that i no longer live in alabama it's even nicer to hear. i've always wondered though about a couple of things about the song and lynyrd skynyrd themselves. like, why would a band from jacksonville, florida write a song called "sweet home alabama"? what does "muscle shoals has got the swampers" mean? i lived just outside of muscle shoals my entire life and have no idea. who is neil young and what did he sing about alabama? you get the drift. well here's what i've come up with after doing some research online.
to be fair
ku and k-state did have more than 8 combined wins up until a few years ago.
through 1989 their all time records are :
ku 396 - 407 - 53
k-state 241 - 473 - 34
k-state has the 8th worse winning percentage of all time at 42%
however alabama through 1989 was 636 - 211 - 41 with too many national champtionships and sec championships and bowl games to mention and currently has the third best winning percentage at 72%. behind only notre dame and michigan.
just to be fair... roll tide!!!

google searches continued
you can also find me as the first listing under "bill warren wrecked my jimmy"

this could be fun
google searches
so i'm checking my referers (that's where the link was that people clicked on to get to this website) and one of them is a google search, actually a couple of them are including the two most recent. one of the searches was for "Spring Break Pictures guys". i did the search and never found my site. i even went like 30 pages deep. the other one was "bill warren website mayor", and mine is the first on the list!!! there's a way to keep google from crawling your pages, i may look into that. if you stumble upon this mr. warren... welcome to my website.
go congress!!
go partial birth abortion ban! go partial birth abortion ban! confused?, still confused? still?
congress actually passed this, or similar legislation twice during the clinton years..but ole slick willie vetoed it. bush has promised to sign it into law. though it will only be a short year or so before it will face its first supreme court challenge.
the good news : that's at least year that this incredibly grotesque and barbaric practice will be illegal.
the bad news : other forms of abortion are still legal and we're not getting much closer to changing that.
philippines airport bombing
what you may not hear on the news is that 3 of the 4 Americans hurt, including the 1 killed, were southern baptist missionaries
roy's wardrobe
i have a lot of respect for ku basketball head coach roy williams. he's had a great record and seems to be a classy guy. however, nobody and i mean nobody white at least, is cool enough to bust out a bow tie on the sidelines.
Updated 13:45
neither is dick vitale...
Updated 13:53
apparently somone told roy, he changed.
that day
it's that day of the year that every guy with a girl knows most certainly his performance for the day will be compared with every guy's of his girl's girlfriend's (follow that?). whatever you do, don't outdo yourself. you may never live up to yourself again.
good luck men and may the force be with you.
joe's final decision
as slightly embarassed as i am to admit it, i have followed the joe millionaire show fairly closely. actually, i have seen all but one. so i'm going to make my prediction known tonight. joe will choose zora and after he reveals himself as a not so rich fella she will kill him. she's got some mental issues anyway. kinda spooky.
shuttle columbia
it's truly sad what happened this morning.
it's impressive to see the bio's of some of the astronauts on board and to hear cnn talk about the committed Christian that one of them was. president bush's address to the nation was most impressive.
"The same creator who names the stars also knows the names of the seven souls we mourn today. The crew of the shuttle Columbia did not return safely to Earth, yet we can pray that all are safely home."
president george w. bush
bama fans in kansas
i was driving today and noticed that the red jeep in front of me had two alabama stickers on the back glass. as in alabama, the university of alabama. at first i didn't think much about it but then i realized, "i'm in kansas." that's the second bama fan i've met since i've been here for 6 months.
now for those of you in alabama, when's the last time you saw someone with a KU or K-State sticker on their car?
roll tide.
